1. Look at more pictures

Especially if you deal primarily in words; buy magazines, go to galleries, waste your afternoon on Tumblr... it won't be a waste of time. The art of seeing what hasn't yet been noticed is an art form unto itself. It unlocks your sense of discovery and the ability to transform the mundane into the extraordinary. Celebrate your ability to see by looking even more. And when something catches your eye and you think... "Hmmm... I wonder why that is?" Don't stop. Your curiosity is the first clue that it's somrthing worth thinking about.
